Warning: Spoilers in art!
My second SPN J2 Big Bang! There were many great stories to choose from again this year, but I was able to claim my two favorites. Here is my art post on the romantic love story "Lottery" by junkerin. Have fun watching and reading!
Fic title: Lottery
Genre: RPF
Pairing: Jensen Ackles/Jared Padalecki
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 29,060
Warnings: None
Summary: Jared is a young guy from a trailer park that wins in the jackpot in the Lottery. Then he meets Jensen rich, goodlooking and old money, so everything should be fine, right? Only Jared´s family is difficult. His sister tends to steal, his brother doesn´t see why he should work when Jared won 998,536,258 $ and his mother doesn´t want to be bothered as long as she can watch TV. Can Jared finally see that his family is the trash everybody sees in them or will he give up Jensen and stay with his family?

Poor Jared
Rich Jensen

Money bag with winning amount
Happy ending for Jared and Jensen

Even while reading the summary, ideas were buzzing through my head. The story is about rich and poor and the differences between the two lifestyles and a huge lottery win. The cover and banner were created in a split second and I was drawing the first sketches before I even knew the whole story. I love romantic comedies and the story entertained as well as the summary promised.
Jared comes from a poor background, wins the lottery, and as a result meets the rich likeable Jensen. That's why Jared wears a simple sweatshirt on the cover and Jensen wears a classy suit with an expensive shirt underneath.
The arrangement of the two J2s above and below also indicates their different backgrounds as well as positions. They are on different sides of society. Despite the obvious differences, both can't take their eyes off each other. With Jensen, it was love at first sight. That's why I depicted Jensen with adoring eyes on the cover and banner.

The cover is a rotating cover. It is designed so that it can be used from two sides. Once, Jared is in the foreground looking mischievously over at Jensen. Jensen in the foreground is looking up at Jared adoringly.
On the banner, some of the luck is symbolized by a money bag and the exorbitant winning amount.

The shamrocks in the background symbolize luck (Jared has been very lucky in life - lottery win, lover, recovery, children). The title of the story is self-explanatory.
The same shamrock is found as a symbol of luck all over the cover, banner, chapter headings and dividers. I also used the same humorous font since the story is a romantic comedy. The font, drawing style, and shamrock tie the individual artworks together into a cohesive ensemble and emphasize the story's plot.

I couldn't decide if it should be the background with the passionate red, the seductive elegant black, the chummy blue or a completely different color. So, with junkerin's approval, in the end I stuck with the hopeful and happy green (also stands for prosperity and stability - again fitting the story), which was the first background I had in mind.

The two chapter titles also illustrate the difference between poverty and wealth. Jared and his family live in an old rusty trailer. Jensen spends his days off carefree on his luxury yacht. The alternating usage reminds the reader again and again of the different living conditions of Jared and Jensen as well as their family background. The different font color symbolizes the basic mood of each chapter (poverty, wealth, happiness, prosperity, peace, joy of life, cold, envy, sadness, health and love).

Finally, Jared and Jensen got their happy ending and rode off into the sunset on the yacht. The rusty trailer is finally a thing of the past.

I created or edited the artwork with Procreate. I've only been drawing for three months. With Procreate it's a lot of fun and the new digital possibilities are endless. Before, I mostly created manips and other photo collages. Drawing people was a particular challenge. This Big Bang is my first big drawing project that I'm tackling.

I hope you enjoyed my art post.

Date: 2022-07-05 12:58 pm (UTC)I love seeing the different backgrounds for the covers, it really shows how different moods can be achieved with different colours! And I love the green that you choose.
The boys are super cute π€π€ and I love the way you made the cover reversible dot that either one could be in focus.
And the chapter headers are delightful! Wonderful job, a pleasure to see. Thank you π

Date: 2022-07-05 07:19 pm (UTC)It has been confirmed again that the first idea is usually the best. The green background really suits the cheerful nature of the story. Red and black would have also been good in a vampire or mafia story.
The story starts with Jared and his win, but then the action is split equally between them. So there is a cover to suit every reader and their J2 favorite.
The chapter titles were a no-brainer. I'm fascinated by these classic trailers. When junkerin described Jared's living situation, I was thrilled with the idea. She also provided Jensen's yacht as a contrast. Voila. Drawing wasn't easy, but it was a lot of fun.π

Date: 2022-07-05 01:48 pm (UTC)Yes, I work a lot with symbolism and meanings. I think a lot about the artwork to a story. That's how I get my ideas. I like to create artwork for great stories. I have huge fun doing it and I'm a perfectionist at the same time.

Date: 2022-07-05 08:04 pm (UTC)As I said, I used a different drawing style here and was unsure if I liked it. Of course, I put a lot of thought into suitable artwork here as well. You know me. I always get fully invested in the stories and try to make the best matches with my art. In doing so, I prefer symbolism because it is so meaningful. π

Date: 2022-07-12 11:09 am (UTC)This time I tried something completely different - hand drawing with Procreate. βοΈ A completely new experience for me. Jared and Jensen were a challenge, especially their hair. But if they both come out gorgeous and slightly blushing to the viewer, then I achieved what I wanted. π€
The rust stains? I had to really force myself to mess up the beautiful trailer with rust stains and faded window curtains. But what don't you do for suitable chapter headings π
