My first prompt "CHESS" to this year's J2 Reverse Bang. I was very happy when my art was claimed by the awesome i_o_r_h_a_e_l. She wrote the exciting and action-packed love story "Check. Mate." It was a lot of fun to create more artwork with chess metaphors.

J2 Reverse Bang 2021 #1 - Original prompt - Prompt 2

Short description of art: Mob boss Jared Padalecki chose his queen a long time ago. Jensen just doesn't know it yet. Jensen returns to his hometown to search for his friend's killer in the underworld swamp and runs into his bully from high school days again. Jensen loathes Jared and his criminal ways. Jared sees only one way to win Jensen over: He must help him find the murderer - even against Jensen's will. Between heated exchanges, forced dinners, kidnappings, and bullets flying around, they finally find the killer and checkmate Jared's competition in the process. And of course, Jensen reluctantly ends up in the arms of the powerful crime boss. Long live the black king and his queen.

It all started with a tattoo for Jared. I was excited by the idea. As usual, I came up with a story to go with it. Jared would be a powerful mob boss with the face of his childhood sweetheart tattooed on his chest, embedded with other elaborate images symbolizing his status. I've always liked chess metaphors. Jared as the black king and Jensen as the white queen. Who makes the best moves and checkmates their opponents? Who wins, who loses? That's how I got the idea for the cover with the giant chess pieces. Guns, blood, red and black, and chessboard stand for danger, crime, gun violence and action, as well as strategy and calculation.

Jared is on the cover with his symbolic figure. So I created a picture with Jensen and his white chess piece. In the second picture Jensen is leaning against Jared, the black king. Chessboard and black and red background complete the whole.

The dividers should have a relation to the cover and the story. Symbolically, the chess pieces represent Jared as the black king as well as his subordinates. Jensen as the only white piece stands out among them. The white queen stands at the side of the black king.
